Winter Day Trips
1. Monarch Mountain
A short drive from Buena Vista, Monarch Mountain is an in dependently owned mountain with all types of terrain options for the whole family. Skiing, snowboarding, and tubing are the best way to spend a winter day!
2. Leadville
About 30 minutes away, Leadville is a historic mining town still booming with life! Explore the historic downtown, many restaurants, and endless recreation opportunities. You can use the 12-mile Mineral Belt Trail Loop to see town, mountains, and everything Leadville has to offer. You can see the area for free via snowshoeing, XC ski, Ski Cooper (not free), fat biking, snowmobiling, and so much more! If you need suggestions, send us an email!
2. Mt. Princeton Hot Springs
Escape the cold with some of the most stunning hot springs in Colorado. At the base of Mt. Princeton, just a quick drive from Buena Vista. There are other hot springs in the area too – check out Cottonwood Hot Springs and Charlotte Hot Springs.
Summer Day Trips
1. Salida
Salida is a charming town right on the river. Famous for their river park, FIBArk whitewater festival, fishing, world class mountain biking, charming bars and restaurants, boutiques, and beautiful mountain views. Need we say more?!
2. Whitewater Rafting on the Arkansas River

3. St. Elmo Ghost Town
Take the prettiest drive up to St. Elmo, an old mining town turned ghost town. St. Elmo is a beautiful and creepy ghost town deep up the mountain. Explore the abandoned houses by foot, and read about what life was like back in the day. There is a general store and lots of friendly squirrels waiting to greet you!
